Sorell public view of understated situations/actions:

Situations:

  • Getting pulled over or flashed by a police vehicle.

  • Approaching a Police checkpoint whilst being unsure of your inebriation levels.

  • Driving in stormy weather.

  • Encountering wildlife on our roads.

  • Patience is key, avoid making that traffic jam worse.

A recommended resolution, a course of action:

Actions to take:

  • Slow down and pull over at the next available place along the road, remain seated, roll down the window and keep your hands on the steering wheel. Your police officer will see to any further measures.

  • Think calm thoughts and hope for the best, or better yet, be sure before you drive. You can't change your blood alcohol reading so the best you can do is proceed calmly

  • Tightly tie down any loose cargo and make sure to drive slower to allow for compensation time should the vehicle slip or lose some degree of control.

  • You Will Be Fine. Unless its a rogue cow nothing here is that big that you need to swerve, grow a pair or invest in a bulbar.

  • Most drivers rage, it's just what you do when you get behind a couple tonnes of steel and speed. It changes you. this doesn't make irrational and unsafe road behaviour acceptable in the attempt to circumvent traffic conditions or otherwise reduce your attention factor whilst driving. DON'T PANIC. just keep cool for all our sakes.

What we hope to change and our current approaches towards a safer drive home:

  • Breaking the myth that tourists are the biggest problem on our roads.

  • Keeping our youth informed on how to not only drive but thrive.

  • Informing the public on the most relevant causes for concern on our roads.

  • Doing what we can to spread this information to encourage continued safe road use for the community and tourists that use our roads.

  • Reminding the people that it is always they who have the control over the situation, ultimately it is up to each of us to keep our roads safe.
